Lab

Overview

Our lab is part of the Center for Spatial Information Science (CSIS) at The University of Tokyo. The lab is jointly operated with the Sezaki Lab (Multimedia Communication Lab) (Prof. Kaoru Sezaki, CSIS / IIS). Our main research area is ubiquitous computing, and our research goal is to improve people's well-being using information technologies. To achieve this goal, we conduct research not only on individual- and group-centered behavior recognition, analysis, accumulation, and prediction technologies, but also on intervention-based behavior change promotion. Furthermore, we engage in interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers both domestically and internationally in application domains such as healthcare, sports, and education.

For Prospective Students

We welcome motivated students who are interested in ubiquitous computing, mobile/wearable sensing, IoT, and related fields. Students can be assigned to our lab by enrolling in the Department of Socio-Cultural Environmental Studies (社会文化環境学専攻), Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (新領域創成科学研究科), The University of Tokyo.

Entrance examinations are held once a year in summer (around August, for October or the following April enrollment). Please note that the examination schedule and admission requirements are subject to change. For the latest information, application process, and past exam questions, please refer to the department website.

If you are interested in joining our lab, please contact Nishiyama by email with your CV and a brief description of your research interests. We encourage you to reach out well in advance of the application deadline.

Internship

We accept internship students from both domestic and international institutions. Internships typically range from a few weeks to several months, depending on the project and your availability. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing research projects and collaborate with lab members.

If you are interested in an internship, please send an email to Yuuki Nishiyama with:

  • Your CV or resume
  • A brief description of your research interests and skills
  • Your preferred internship period

Collaborative Research Opportunities

We are actively seeking collaborators from academia and industry. Our lab welcomes joint research projects in the areas of ubiquitous computing, mobile/wearable sensing, behavior recognition, and related fields.

If you are interested in collaborating with us, please feel free to reach out. We are open to various forms of collaboration, including:
